50 shades of control… Although this is the last part in this 5-part series on understanding narcissism, I’m sure it won’t be the last time I post on the subject.
Narcissism at its core is not only about self-absorption (some narcissists actually appear to hate themselves) but it is all about control. They want your undivided attention on all levels, physically, mentally and emotionally. They will go to great lengths (some as far as murder) to control your entire life, the very way you think about yourself. Often even extremely strong, independent individuals can become completely different people, losing their sense of personal identity when under the influence of a narcissist.
The 50 Shades of Grey craze romanticizes how this process happens, and would have us believe this type of mindset is limited to the BDSM world. But it’s not.
I have not read 50 Shades of Grey (too many trauma triggers!) and I don’t know that I ever will. But, as its popularity grew in our modern culture, I wanted to understand why on earth it has become so incredibly popular and WHY women would be attracted to read it! Below is a link to the best 50 Shades overview I have ever read and it sheds insightful light on society in general. I sincerely hope you will take the time to read it too.
